Hi! Thanks for visiting! It has been a few days since my last post, but I promise I have a good excuse. My little one was sick with pneumonia and my husband and I had to take turns staying home from work to take care of him last week. The hubs is also my photog, and he ended up getting sick too- so no outfit posts for me! I now resolve to teach myself how to use the remote for my camera this year.
Anyway, one of the days I was home, I had my laptop sitting on the dining table and the little one climbed up on to the table and proceeded to knock an entire glass of water on the keyboard! I was sure my MacBook was toast, but... I found a proven way to save it!
Note: I tried this with a Mac, not a PC - so I'm not sure if it will work for PC's.
1. Hold the computer upside down and blow dry (on cold) any water that is in the keyboard. Make sure you do NOT turn the computer on.
2. Fill a large bag (I used a garbage bag) with rice. I used Basmati because that is all I had in the house, but I heard that brown rice works great too.
3. Place laptop in bag of rice, making sure the rice is completely covering the keyboard area.
4. Let sit for 48 hours minimum.
5. Open and make sure to get all of the rice out of any cracks.
6. Turn on and enjoy!
Btw, little one is doing better, and he had a blast at the Yo Gabba Gabba live show today. It was his first time out of the house in a while and he loved it. The show was also ridiculous, it was like a Madonna concert or something with the lights and effects. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet.
I can't wait to share my closet makeover with you all - I promise that is coming up soon!
Sometimes I wish I could spend all day blogging, but life tends to get in the way!

RICE is honestly the key! I keep a cheap bag just for this purpose and it works with cell phones too!

That is a great idea! I am going to have one on hand from now on!
DeleteWow, great tips. I have been fortunate enough not to have this happen to me ever since I've owned a laptop - only veryyy minor spills, but I'll have to come back here if it ever does happen! Rice sounds like it would work perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your little one is doing much better!
Love,
Anum
Thank you! He is just fine now, thankfully.
DeleteAnd yes, don't forget - Kelly Ann above put it perfectly, rice is the key!

Ugh - I'm sorry your were dealing with two sickies in your casa, but it sounds like everyone is on the mend now. I totally feel you on the computer thing. Not long after we moved into our home, the kids were upstairs playing in their rooms (with access to a sink), and my husband had a laptop sitting on the island in our kitchen below. Well, apparently the kids were actually playing IN the sink, with the water running, and suddenly it started POURING from our ceiling onto the laptop below. We ran upstairs, turned off the water (from the tap AND below the sink, and then REMOVED the handle under the sink). Tom took the entire laptop apart and did the rice trick, and it started up again no problem - which was good, since he was working on the laptop for a co-worker!!
ReplyDeleteWe have only recently turned the water back on in the kids' rooms....

Oh my gosh! I swear ONLY kids can find a way to do damage from a completely different room! This story is reassuring though, because sometimes I think I am not being a good enough parent when things like this happen-like I should have been watching him more closely, etc. Its good to know it happens to everyone! I am glad you saved your laptop too!
DeleteHope your son gets better soon, oh no about your laptop but what a great save...this is something likely to happen to me, I'm always drinking a glass of water near mine. Thanks for the tips.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam!
DeleteThis is such a helpful post! Thanks so much for sharing, girly! I'll have to keep this in mind!
