The Lace-up

The lace-up style we saw all over Spring 2015 runway, (Gucci, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton to name just a few) is still going strong and truly one of my favorites because it is so romantic. I love romantic fashion but on a personal level I don’t think I would classify myself as a romantic, in fact I’d probably make my husband spit out his drink if I suggested that. No, I’m more of a sarcastic realist, not in a mean way, but more in a playful British or New Yorker kind of way, if that makes sense. It might seem easy to pull off the romantic lace-up style but I think the key is to be sure it doesn’t look to costume-y – like you are attempting to channel Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean, or for you older folk – trying to imitate Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘puffy shirt‘ episode (starts at 2:21) which is actually a current Halloween Costume.  So you can understand how I was so excited when I found this blouse because it has a nipped waist, and the silk fabric lays flat on the arms and really flatters the figure.
