Video: How To Start A Natural Skincare Routine + Art of Pure

This year I’m switching to a natural skincare routine – using products that are both effective AND good for me.

A few weeks ago, Art of Pure held a pop-up shop at CH/LL Chicago, and I was so excited to attend. There were beauty products to play with, followed by my choice of meditation or yoga workshop – basically my ideal Saturday morning. I would also get the chance to meet boss babe, entrepreneur mama, and Art of Pure founder, Monika Joshi. But then life happened, and unfortunately, I had to miss out. However, one of my resolutions this year is to be more proactive, so I decided to reach out to see if she would be willing to meet with me, and to my delight, she agreed!

Starting a natural skincare routine isn’t easy. There are lots of products marketed as ‘natural’ that aren’t really, and there are also ingredients that read like they could be toxic chemicals, when in fact that is just the scientific term being used for something natural. Of course, quality remains king which is why products like the Aspect DR product may continue to catch your eye.

Which is precisely why I was thrilled to meet with Joshi. Art of Pure is a one stop shop, a thoughtfully curated selection of high-performing natural skin care and beauty products. Natural products have come a long way. It used to be a trade off, you either used stuff that was good for you, or stuff that actually worked. Now the problem isn’t finding a natural skincare product, but deciphering the labels and choosing one. Art of Pure can help narrow down that list for you.

In this video, I ask Monika to share some of her personal favorite skincare products, and also her advice for a day time and night time skincare routine. I even get personal and ask her advice for any aspiring entrepreneurs out there looking to quit their job and follow their passion like she did. (I’m obsessed with her answer to that question, btw.) After our meeting, I left with a few samples of most of the products we talk about, and I’ve already started using them and I really love them.

According to Monika, there isn’t only one ‘right’ way, but the most important thing about your skincare routine is to keep it up. To see results, it is important to have a ritual, and to stay consistent with it.

Day Time:

  1. Cleanse skin twice using an oil-based cleanser. Massage cleanser into skin, and remove with towel.
  2. Apply Serum
  3. Use Toner
  4. Moisturize (note: If serum is oil-based, you can skip this step unless you feel you need more moisture)

Night Time:

  1. Like Day Time, cleanse skin twice using an oil based cleanser, massaging into skin and wiping with towel. Try opting for a different cleanser for the second time – something like a broad spectrum CBD oil can work wonders for naturally removing makeup, reducing wrinkles and blemishes and for sending you to sleep, so it’s a triple whammy all in one!
  2. Apply Serum
  3. Use Toner
  4. Apply Oil blend
  5. Moisturize using a slightly heavier moisturizer or a balm into skin.

First time back to my hometown to see my parents since Thanksgiving 2019. The kids have been so excited to see their Nanababa and Nano! The last video is what I was really missing tho…
My new favorite place in the house is definitely the sitting room off my bedroom. (See the before in my Reels) I worked with @thehavenly to turn this into my dream space. Now what used to be a pass through, is where I love to sit down after a shower and put on lotion or comb my hair, or even just curl up and read a book or listen to a guided meditation. Just a cozy and pretty space that feels intentional 💕 #havenlyambassador #interiordesign
I glow ‘cause I know what my worth is…who can name that song?? (every mom probably knows)
Thanks for all the love on my last post ❤️ I’m nursing a vulnerability hangover because I am actually a pretty private person (believe it or not) but every time I do get in my feelings and share it I end up connecting with so many of you and that makes it worth it. I know I am inspiring women to be unapologetic and to live their truth by doing so myself. That’s not a flex, enough of you dm me on the daily for me to say it with confidence. So with that- Lets go 2022! Hope this year keeps you feeling rested, hydrated, and living your best life! Also sorry and yes I’m definitely bothered by that rug flipped over in the back
Life is weird. For 2022 I’m thinking about how much I’ve personally grown. From this 21 year old girl getting married to someone I barely knew way too fast (my first marriage- also divorced within a year). That experience made me learn so much about standing up for what I wanted. Then for many years I thought I knew who I was, and soon I realized that wasn’t it either. I evolved. I struggled with my faith, particularly in 2020 when I felt attacked for my non mainstream views about Islam - interfaith marriage, LGBTQ, etc. Because of that, I lost a lot of supporters and tbh- sadly lost some friends. But I also figured out, with the sage advice from papa Shah, that there are as many opinions in the world as there are people - so me trying to change peoples opinions was pretty futile. Rather than bearing hostility to those who don’t think like me, I realized I should have empathy, and give people room to grow and learn. So I can say with sincerity that I’m finally good - with life and God and everything - and I’m proud of baby girl in this pic ❤️ Cheers to more growth and happiness next year!
You’re the best, I don’t care what everyone else says ❤️
