I have recently taken to reading most of my magazines on my iPad, even though I still love the idea of curling up on the couch with a new glossy paged magazine to flip through – or to rip out favorite images for my inspiration wall at home. I started with a subscription to Practical Horseman, when I began my horseback riding lessons, to brush up my knowledge of all things equestrian. I had to download an app called Zinio in order to read it, and I am so glad I did! They have a huge selection of magazines that you can either download one issue at a time, or subscribe to. Last night I was feeling a bit anxious and restless; a result of the full moon, I later realized, so in order to pass the time, I randomly downloaded the current issue of Vogue India and…can I say, LOVE!
I’m sure to a lot of people, especially in India, this is definitely not a new discovery, but I was completely unaware of the magazines existence! I think the appeal of this magazine reaches much wider than Asia.
Not only is it refreshing for me to see a magazine with people who look like me, but there are also tons of fashion and beauty tips that I will totally use! They also did profiles of entrepeneurs and philanthropists that were making a difference, which was inspiring. Some of the issue was a little disappointing, like the numerous and sometimes contradictory articles on dieting and the like, but overall I was impressed.
By the way, I’m starting to believe the full-moon-induced anxiety is very real. Both my husband and I were up late last night and we couldn’t understand why we just couldn’t sleep. Two catch-up episodes of Mad Men and numerous rounds of Words with Friends couldn’t even do the trick. I tried to do what my yoga teacher would say to do, quiet the mind and focus on the breath. It worked, eventually.
