I usually don’t post on the weekends but I wanted to give you an update on my Guest room project! I mentioned before that I am going to be redoing my guest room for my upcoming visitors (like I needed an excuse…)
This is what it currently looks like:
Not terribly bad, but just sort of thrown together without a lot of thought, and filled with things we already had. Plus I took the bedding off to be washed prior to taking this picture, so it actually looks more bland than usual.
So when I start designing a room, the first thing I do is brainstorm. I devour every magazine and design website that I can, and try to come up with some basic concepts that I know I will want to use for my design.
Some of my favorite places to buy home decor and furnishings are: Design Within Reach, Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Ballard Designs, CB2, Ikea, One Kings Lane, Z Gallerie, and Joss and Main.
My idea for this room is to create a relaxing escape, so that my guests can feel like they are on vacation somewhere tranquil and remote. There needs to be comfy bedding, and a soft rug to step out of bed on to. For lighting I am thinking a floor lamp, and two sconces on either side of the bed to be adjusted for reading.
Here are some inspiration rooms:

I love the relaxed, almost thrown together look, and the mixing of materials – wood, metal, iron, glass.

Ordered this side table and another one from West Elm- it is on backorder though – ugh! |
More updates on the guest room to follow!
