Rent the Runway Review

I spent the past weekend attending a wedding of a close friend near Niagara Falls, New York. The wedding was probably one of the best I’ve ever attended, from the location, to the food, to the entertainment, it was a blast. We stayed at the Barton Hill Hotel in Lewiston, which was a cute town with adorable shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Lewiston is so much better than the American side of Niagara Falls, which surprisingly had very few food options ranging from the stuff you would find in a convenience store, to one lone chain restaurant – the Hard Rock Cafe. We couldn’t go to Canada because we didn’t have our passports… believe me I was kicking myself.

Strangely though, there were about 7 Indian restaurants and food trucks in this same two block radius. I wasn’t really in the mood for Indian so we did Hard Rock Cafe, where the waitress boasted about a room they had with Michael Jackson and Elton John – she said I should take my son in there to look around. When I finally decided to get up and check it out, I discovered they only had framed pictures of the pop stars, with an artifact like shoes or something of theirs. What a disappointment! I was thinking it would be a wax sculpture or something at least.

At least the falls were amazing as always…

You may have caught some of my instagram’ing throughout the weekend – sadly, those were the only pictures I had time to take!

I mentioned in the previous post that I decided to try out Rent the Runway for the first time with the intention of blogging about my experience. Here are some pictures of me wearing the dresses that I rented:

The pros:

1- I loved the dresses and got tons of compliments on both dresses! Some from friends but also from complete strangers- which is not my goal when I shop for a dress… but is always a nice bonus!

2 – It is an extremely good value! For the style and the designer dress – I would have spent a lot more on a dress – and I’d probably wear it a couple of times, max.

3- There shouldn’t be any shame in renting – honestly – celebrities do it all the time and they can afford to wear these pricey designer labels all the time. Even if I could afford it, I could think of a million other things I’d rather spend my money on – like another vacation for example!

The cons:

1 – I got both of these dresses a day before I was flying out, not giving me enough time to really make sure it fit right. Because of this, one of the dresses required a different bra than I owned, and I needed to make a run to Wal-Mart (the only store nearby the hotel where I was staying) for a bra meant for a backless dress, and the only one I found was cheap and uncomfortable. I spent quite a bit of the night worrying I’d have a wardrobe malfunction. The second dress was similar, it fit – but it was strapless, and just slightly loose when I moved around a lot, so I had to pin it in place.

2 – One of the dresses (the blush colored) was obviously not new. I actually hesitated on wearing it because I felt like it looked like it was dry cleaned one too many times. However, when I did wear it at night, it was not noticeable at all, and in fact looked great.

So the verdict on rent the runway is…I would do it again! I’d be careful to choose something that I know would not likely have fit issues, like a strapless dresses. For the value, and the selection, it is a fun thing to try and do at least once! I actually feel like Rent the Runway should be paying me for the amount of free sales I’ve been doing for them the whole weekend!

By the way, I’m not planning on taking any trips anywhere for a few weeks, so I am hoping to have a few new outfit and design posts soon! Stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!
