Stripes and Tulips

Over Easter weekend I picked up some fresh blooms from Mariano’s and they were so pretty, I hopped out of the car on the way home and shot this picture (I always have my camera handy for such an occasion). I am so in love with this dress by Buckley K that has a drop waist and a fluted skirt. I also brought this dress with me to San Francsisco and wore it a few different ways again, it is a really versatile travel piece. You can wear it as a skirt or dress, and dressed up with heels or dressed down with sneakers, a sweatshirt, and a baseball hat.
It was a bit chilly so I layered this look with my go-to chambray top and army green anorak jacket. When I’m adding a few layers, I always like to cinch the waist with a belt. Mindy Kaling recently said when she’s at her thinnest, she wears loose clothes, but when she gains a few pounds she makes sure everything fits perfectly snug, as if to say- this is my perimeter, I don’t get any bigger than this. I thought that was hilarious, but also sort of a good point – most people should add a belt when wearing many layers, so to avoid adding too much bulk. The really voluminous look works well on the runway but is not always flattering in real life and real bodies.
What’s your go-to piece? Do you love a great striped dress or an army green utility jacket too?
