Neutrals + Fringe

This week has been such a dream since temps have been hitting over 80 degrees consistently daily. I’m not sure if it is my Pakistani heritage, or the fact that I grew up in Sacramento, but I’m just made for hot weather. Not in the way that everyone likes pleasantly warm weather, I mean for me, the hotter it gets – the better. I become happier, nicer, and just a better human being in the heat.

When I was younger I’d get in trouble for being out in the sun so long because I get so tan and that was a bad thing in my culture where girls were prized to be ‘fair and lovely’ (*sigh* colorism for South Asians…a lasting effect of British Imperialism). I never subscribed to that line of thinking thanks to my American upbringing and gaggle of girlfriends who worshipped tanning, the same ones I’d always used to sneak out to the pool with – my chlorine bloodshot eyes and fresh tan giving me away every time.  So bringing us back to today, with this heat wave in Chicago, of course I’ve been spending every moment outside possible.

Wearing white not only reflects heat and keeps you cool, which makes sense why it is pretty much a standard color for summer, but it also looks really great with a tan. I like to pair white with either more white, or with other neutral tones in lightweight fabrics, like this fringed sweater and my new favorite espadrille shoes. I plan on packing these for our Memorial Day weekend trip to the lake, ugh I’m so excited – only two days left before sun, boats, and barbecue!

The sunglasses I’m wearing are from and their Endless Eyewear program – which you need to check out if you love sunglasses. You pay $24 monthly for an endless rotation of sunglasses, including all high end designer brands like Ray-Ban, Prada, and Dolce Gabbana to name a few.  They also have a fun feature where you can upload a picture of yourself and try on sunglasses to see how they will look before you order. There are some trees with seeds that only grow after a fire. Their seeds are completely sealed with a resin that have to be physically melted off by a great fire in order to propagate. So to do we as humans, gain wisdom only after great pain and suffering.*
A month ago (and one day) I lost my sister and best friend to cancer. I am still completely gutted and broken. But, I’m also so so grateful to have had felt the love that now brings me so much heartbreak. ❤️ I am so inspired by her - and I will forever live my life to honor her memory. Miss you sis ❤️

French. Toast. Egg. Bake. Save this recipe for a weekend or holiday brunch - it’s SO good and fool-proof! I’m not even a sweet person and I love it. The pecans are a non-negotiable IMO - I get honey bourbon vanilla pecans for this and it is just heavenly. Enjoy!

Peak Autumn beauty 🍂 These two pictures were taken only 10 days apart ~ look how much the color has changed! I love to go for a walk and admire all the gorgeous foliage - so much fun. This side of my house is officially my favorite: a mix of shrubs including hydrangea, blue spruce, beautyberry, euonymus, pine, boxwood, burning bush, viburnum, smokebush, and you can even see the Japanese maple peeking out from the backyard 🍂#fallfoliage #autumn
