Neutrals + Fringe

This week has been such a dream since temps have been hitting over 80 degrees consistently daily. I’m not sure if it is my Pakistani heritage, or the fact that I grew up in Sacramento, but I’m just made for hot weather. Not in the way that everyone likes pleasantly warm weather, I mean for me, the hotter it gets – the better. I become happier, nicer, and just a better human being in the heat.

When I was younger I’d get in trouble for being out in the sun so long because I get so tan and that was a bad thing in my culture where girls were prized to be ‘fair and lovely’ (*sigh* colorism for South Asians…a lasting effect of British Imperialism). I never subscribed to that line of thinking thanks to my American upbringing and gaggle of girlfriends who worshipped tanning, the same ones I’d always used to sneak out to the pool with – my chlorine bloodshot eyes and fresh tan giving me away every time.  So bringing us back to today, with this heat wave in Chicago, of course I’ve been spending every moment outside possible.

Wearing white not only reflects heat and keeps you cool, which makes sense why it is pretty much a standard color for summer, but it also looks really great with a tan. I like to pair white with either more white, or with other neutral tones in lightweight fabrics, like this fringed sweater and my new favorite espadrille shoes. I plan on packing these for our Memorial Day weekend trip to the lake, ugh I’m so excited – only two days left before sun, boats, and barbecue!

The sunglasses I’m wearing are from Ditto.com and their Endless Eyewear program – which you need to check out if you love sunglasses. You pay $24 monthly for an endless rotation of sunglasses, including all high end designer brands like Ray-Ban, Prada, and Dolce Gabbana to name a few.  They also have a fun feature where you can upload a picture of yourself and try on sunglasses to see how they will look before you order. Tom’s 50th birthday was all that and a bag of chips! Thanks to our amazing friends and family for making this milestone so special. The cake almost burned the house down with all those candles 😉 but we survived! Happy birthday to my @tom_sandberg! Love you! You didn’t peak in the 90’s you’re still out here getting cuter! ❤️ #birthdayparty #90sparty

Friday mood…
Join me while I gather eggs and check what’s growing in my veggie garden🪴 🐓 Veggie update: Currently my zucchini is slowing down (praise the Lord! 🙏🏾)Tomatoes are slowly but surely ripening, I have a bed of sweet potatoes and yellow onion, and some butternut squash, eggplant, and bell peppers, and one pumpkin so far! Cucumbers had a moment early summer but seem to be done now. I also tried to do grapes but they were a fail. Every year in the garden is an experiment and a learning experience! #veggiegarden #chickencoop
I like big blooms and I cannot lie! 🌸 🥰 #hydrangeas
Ratatouille with a side of air fryer chicken and some crusty bread 🤌🏾 I called it ‘lazy girl’ Ratatouille but ‘busy girl’ would have been more accurate - because you save a lot of time by cooking the eggplant, zucchini, and peppers separately. Easy, fast, and fresh - give it a try! #dinnerideas
5 years old and already way too cool for mommy!
