Having kids and working from home means I’m working around the clock, and being organized is something I have to do in order to maintain my sanity.
I spend most of my days trying to balance blog projects with play dates, doctors appointments, baseball practice, and most recently, nursing and pumping for baby Sophia, among many other things. I manage everything by keeping myself as organized as possible, and using my LifePlanner™ is key.
So naturally I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to work with Erin Condren, showcasing the customizable planners, journals, and calendars that are perfect or organizing a busy life. I’m obsessed with great design and the Lifeplanner™ is not only beautiful, but also full of special features like laminated pages for dry erase notes, pockets for loose papers and receipts, and extra pages for notes (or doodling while talking on the phone). It is also a great gift idea – I’m already planning to give one to Adam’s teacher as a teacher appreciation gift too.
No matter how technologically advanced society gets, there is even science to back up the importance of writing things too.
Almost every life coach or motivational speaker promotes writing down your goals to better achieve them. So while I still use my google calendar on my mobile devices, I also believe writing down and looking at my month is the best way to keep my life on track. Tom even knows to check my calendar if he wants to see if we have anything going on – because most likely I won’t remember it otherwise!
I also like to keep an ongoing list in the margins of the calendar, that way I know what my goals and projects are for the current month. Anything I don’t complete, I add to the following month, and at the end of the year I can flip through and appreciate all that I’ve accomplished. It helps me to prioritize the things that I need to get done right now, while keeping in mind things I want to accomplish in the near future. Also, seeing how much I have already scheduled makes it easier for me to say no to a project that I don’t have enough time for, or even just plan ahead for some me time.
There are so many choices for planner designs, ranging from the fun floral style I have, to luxe leather like styles that would be great for work or school. I customized mine with my name (you can also do initials), and also went for a rose gold coil binding. I love the cute stickers and sticky notes that actually turn the mundane task of planning into something creative and really fun. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to put stickers on my wall calendar and color in special event days – this is basically the same thing, just the grown up version!
