Double Denim

I’ve been sharing my outfits here on the blog for quite a while now. I ‘d like to say I have created a well of style inspiration from which to draw at any given time. The funny thing is though, whenever I’m at a loss for what to wear, I always fall back on the same exact formula: denim x denim. Canadian Tuxedo, Texas Tux, whatever you want to call it. I know I can always count on some double denim to make me look like I tried, but not too hard. It immediately gives you that elusive ‘effortless’ look (that otherwise usually requires quite a bit of effort). I also love a good vintage band tee, and Sublime has to be one of my all time favorite bands – even though you can hardly call anything 90’s ‘vintage’ yet – can you?

Actually to me, it feels like the 90’s wasn’t even that long ago, and I still love everything about it. A couple of years ago I even wrote an entire blog post called ‘why I love the 90’s‘. There was an alternative culture that I wholly embraced as a teen, and seeing it translated through fashion on the runway the past few years stirs up all kinds of emotion in me. It was all about being authentic, rejecting conformity, and living in the moment. Right now more than ever we need to hold true to those values if we want to see positive change come about in the world. One clothing line on my radar that is embracing that philosophy, (which will hopefully end up in my closet very soon), is R13 by Chris Leba (these jeans and this jacket are currently in my shopping cart).

The way I like to do denim on denim is to mix and match the wash, light and dark. Also another fashion idol of mine wears it perfectly here. It doesn’t have to be a big difference in color but even the slightest will do the trick. Of course to keep current, I went with a looser fitting straight leg denim, this pair by Levi’s is my favorite. This Fall denim is all about a looser fit, slightly darker denim, with less rips and distressing. I’m not getting rid of my skinny jeans just yet though…

Have a great week guys. Thanks for visiting as always xx
