Video: How To Start A Natural Skincare Routine + Art of Pure

This year I’m switching to a natural skincare routine – using products that are both effective AND good for me.

Taking care of your skin naturally can be difficult. Some treatments like microneedling in Denver
contain no chemicals to be concerned with, but when it comes to skincare products themselves it can get very confusing. There are lots of products marketed as ‘natural’ that aren’t really, and there are also ingredients that read like they could be toxic chemicals, when in fact that is just the scientific term being used for something natural.

A few weeks ago, Art of Pure held a pop-up shop at CH/LL Chicago, and I was so excited to attend. There were beauty products to play with, followed by my choice of meditation or yoga workshop – basically my ideal Saturday morning. I would also get the chance to meet boss babe, entrepreneur mama, and Art of Pure founder, Monika Joshi. But then life happened, and unfortunately, I had to miss out. However, one of my resolutions this year is to be more proactive, so I decided to reach out to see if she would be willing to meet with me, and to my delight, she agreed!

I was thrilled to meet with Joshi. Art of Pure is a one stop shop, a thoughtfully curated selection of high-performing natural skin care and beauty products. Natural products have come a long way. It used to be a trade off, you either used stuff that was good for you, or stuff that actually worked. Then there might be other factors that one might take into consideration while choosing. For instance, many cosmetic detox and beauty products are housed in plastic containers which when left for a long time might absorb some of the microplastics that can be harmful to the skin. However, cosmetic brands nowadays use good quality plastic or glass that can be sustainable. That said, now the problem isn’tfinding a natural skincare product, but deciphering the labels and choosing one. Art of Pure can help narrow down that list for you.

In this video, I ask Monika to share some of her personal favorite skincare products, and also her advice for a day time and night time skincare routine. I even get personal and ask her advice for any aspiring entrepreneurs out there looking to quit their job and follow their passion like she did. (I’m obsessed with her answer to that question, btw.) After our meeting, I left with a few samples of most of the products we talk about, and I’ve already started using them and I really love them.

According to Monika, there isn’t only one ‘right’ way, but the most important thing about your skincare routine is to keep it up. To see results, it is important to have a ritual, and to stay consistent with it.

Day Time:

  1. Cleanse your skin twice using an oil-based cleanser. Massage cleanser into skin, and remove with towel.
  2. Apply a serum like one from the Aspect DR product line.
  3. Use a natural toner to further cleanse and moisturise your skin.
  4. Moisturize (note: If serum is oil-based, you can skip this step unless you feel you need more moisture)

Night Time:

  1. Like Day Time, cleanse the skin twice using an oil-based cleanser, massaging into the skin and wiping with a towel. Try opting for a different cleanser for the second time – something like a broad spectrum CBD oil can work wonders for naturally removing makeup, reducing wrinkles and blemishes and for sending you to sleep, so it’s a triple whammy all in one!
  2. Apply a nighttime serum. These often have different formulations to standard serums.
  3. Use toner. You can use the same one you use for the daytime
  4. Apply the oil blend
  5. Moisturize using a slightly heavier moisturizer or a balm into skin.

Last week we took a quick trip to escape the snow for some sunshine in Key Largo, Florida☀️ We spent every moment possible outside, Tom and Adam got their Scuba Diver PADI certification (yay!) while Sophia and I spent our days either swimming or drawing marine life and landscapes. This was my first trip after my sister passed last November, and even though I look so happy here, there were so many moments I felt the grief and sadness, as if it happened just yesterday. I am still figuring out how I want to show up in this space, as I have changed so much as a person since the loss. I just don’t feel called to post some of the things I shared before. Maybe that will change someday, or maybe it will just naturally evolve into something new. I think I will take this year to just process it all. (Even the idea of taking an entire year to think through something is a huge shift for my usually hyperactive type A personality) My focus at the moment is just living in the moment with my family and friends, spending time doing things that make me happy and healthy. I hope to share some of that journey here with you ~ thanks for following along ❤️
I had planned to shoot this outfit in collaboration with @lenacoutureofficial right before my dear sister passed away. Saba, the designer, was more than understanding if I didn’t want to anymore - but after thinking on it for a while I decided I wanted to - in my sister’s honor 💗 She was always my biggest hype woman. When i would feel like I’m not good enough or that I should quit (which was often) she would tell me I was unique and great and to keep it up. When I think of my sister, beauty and love is all that she embodied in her being. She expressed that on the outside also - as she loved to wear everything glam, bright & colorful, and full of bling. Hair done, nails done, everything did - that was Nusrat. For this shoot I took the time to get glam after a long hiatus - and makeup and hair took so long because I think I forgot how to do it, but afterwards I was surprised how I felt transformed. When I wore this gorgeous outfit that I know was designed with such love and incredible attention to detail by @lenacoutureofficial, I felt all of that beauty - like a walking piece of art, and very much at peace. Thank you so much to @divmophoto for capturing the feeling so well 💕
Ski weekend with my favorites ❄️❄️ So proud of Sophia for skiing on her own for the first time!
There are some trees with seeds that only grow after a fire. Their seeds are completely sealed with a resin that have to be physically melted off by a great fire in order to propagate. So to do we as humans, gain wisdom only after great pain and suffering.*
A month ago (and one day) I lost my sister and best friend to cancer. I am still completely gutted and broken. But, I’m also so so grateful to have had felt the love that now brings me so much heartbreak. ❤️ I am so inspired by her - and I will forever live my life to honor her memory. Miss you sis ❤️

Cozy for a coffee date ☕️
French. Toast. Egg. Bake. Save this recipe for a weekend or holiday brunch - it’s SO good and fool-proof! I’m not even a sweet person and I love it. The pecans are a non-negotiable IMO - I get honey bourbon vanilla pecans for this and it is just heavenly. Enjoy!
