I discovered Material World last year while scrolling through the ‘gram and fell in love with the concept. My biggest issue with resale shopping is the hassle. With two babies now, I don’t have time to sift through racks and try on clothes in stores for hours. Even though many resale shops have an online presence nowadays, it still takes a lot of time to go through the inventory and examine pictures for any defects. Then comes the sizing which can be vastly different between brands, especially when we are talking about European sizing which is like a reality check to some American brands with their ‘vanity sizing’ (quadruple zero?! Just stop).
So the idea of having a stylist pick out clothes for me based on my sizing and preferences sounded like a great idea. They also have a trade-in service so I planned to sell back some of my clothes that aren’t getting worn much – (which is basically most of my closet).
I took a chance and signed up for my first box, which is $39, but you can deduct that amount from any thing you choose to purchase from the box. After filling out a form with my sizing, brand preferences, social media handles (assuming they will be getting a feel for my style) and what type of pieces I am interested in getting, I waited patiently for my first box to arrive. My stylist nailed it and I ended up purchasing 3 out of the 5 pieces – and the two I didn’t get were really hard to let go.
